History – 1930 to 1950
Crown Equipment Corporation was started in the rural American neighborhood of New Bremen, Ohio, USA. The company has developed from a one-room outfit into a globally prominent organization, currently considered to be the 7th leading forklift maker on the planet.
The Crown company was founded in 1945 by two brothers, Allen A. Dicke and the late Carl H. Dicke. Carl’s son and Chairman Emeritus, James F. Dicke, joined the family company later that same year. Presently, his son, James F. Dicke II, is Chairman and CEO. James F. Dicke III, serves as the company President at the moment, becoming the fourth generation of the Dicke family to uphold this position.
Now an internationally diversified corporation, Crown initially manufactured temperature controls for coal burning furnaces, servicing a small client base. The production of these control units took place in a former hardware store located in New Bremen, Ohio, where Crown’s head office presently remain.
By the year 1949, Crown moved into the construction of rotators for antenna due the increased fascination with televisions at the time. The product was able to improve the picture and signal quality. The company’s lucrative move allowed them to become a leading maker of units until 2001. The company ceased production in October after a decline in the global demand for TV antenna rotators.
History – 1950 to 1975
In the early 1950’s Crown diversified into the production and repair of electronic and mechanized machinery for government and private market. Following numerous successful bids within a brief period of time, the company had built a highly regarded business in this field.
Adaptability and achievement dominated Crown’s capability to diversify once again. In 1957, production into the material handling market started with forklift production. The company believed the industry demanded a smaller line of top-quality quality forklifts. Crown quickly created an exceptional series of progressive equipment and swiftly evolved into the most rapidly evolving material handling company with its assortment of products.
By 1966, Crown had ventured into the overseas material handling markets by opening up shop in Sydney, Australia. Sydney is now a regional center of operations for Crown for all Pacific Asian sales, marketing and advertising, and services. Crown remains an unwavering market leader these days, supported by exceptional operations, solid sales and strong manufacturing operations.
Two years later, Crown had moved into the European markets by buying up an Irish production facility from a German Company, Steinbock. There they began to make PTH hand pallet trucks. Later on that same year, Crown began their first London operation situated close by Heathrow Airport. The sales and service operation of Crown’s complete forklift line was available in the UK by the end of the decade. In the early 1970’s, Crown expanded and began marketing and advertising forklifts across Europe through autonomous dealers.

Currently, Crown manufactures an enormous fleet of electric forklifts. The company’s dealer network, stationed in key international markets, consists of both Crown-owned and independently-owned sellers. They are responsible for managing the company’s product sales and service.
